What started off as an accidental discovery by three railroad construction workers in 1883 has created Canada’s First National Park, Banff National Park. On the eastern slopes of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, is where it is located. And the natural hot springs that come out of Mountains stem back to that accidental discovery by the rail workers. Majestic does not begin to describe their rare blue peaks. Much of Canadian Art and Literature has devoted their efforts to this wondrous part of Canadian Natural Geography and History.
If you can, rent a car and do some driving in and around the town. The views will leave you absolutely amazed with the wonder of the scenic terrain. You will feel small and insignificant in the presence of such lustrous landscape. The hectic stress of city life will be completely forgotten as you take it all in. You, yourself, maybe so inspired to photograph, paint, draw and write a poem about Banff, as so many have before you.
There are several resorts to choose from, but if you are like me, and have a very tight budget for travel with the family, cottage rentals are the way to go. It provides you with a way to cook your meals instead of dine out. And it also affords you the option of planning your vacation on your time, and not someone else’s. In this part of the country, the word “chalet rental” means more to skiers and tourists. It is not only an opportunity to explore the power of nature from the heights of the ski hills, but also to enrich one’s self in a true part of local history and wondrous cultural sites:
· The Banff Centre
· Local Performance Theatres
· Art Galleries
· Museums (Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies)
· Banff Mountain
· Upper Hot Springs
· Tunnel Mountain
· Bow Falls
· Trails, and lots of them (to name a few things to see and do…)
Give yourself enough time to do the right amount of research and find a chalet or cabin rentals that fits both your budget, but also you and your family’s needs. The recommended rental periods are still weekly rentals; you truly want to make sure you give yourself enough time to see all that Banff has to offer. There are still opportunities in 4 day rentals, though not as common with cottage owners, more common at resorts.
Get out there and explore!
