The Portage Inn built in 1889 is a historical landmark in the
Huntsville area. The Inn is now a beautiful refurbished B & B
and is Located on 5 acres of land that offer outstanding views
of Peninsula lake and make for a natural four season playground.
The Inn has Beautiful rooms with private en suite bathrooms,
some with a view of the lake and others with Jacuzzi baths. Room
rates are $135 with breakfast for two when booking 2 nights or
more.
There is a Great Room where you can have breakfast and there is
a piano, pool table, and huge stone fireplace, there are plenty
of books available in the library upstairs.
In the winter there are numerous activities that can be done
right on the property and in the area. The property is located
right on snowmobile trail numbers 54 and 77 and is a perfect
location for snowmobile enthusiasts . It is only 8 minutes from
Hidden Valley Skiing (downhill) and snowboarding or you can bring
your cross-country skis or snowshoes and explore the area, or do
some tobogganing, tubing, ice skating, dog sledding, sleigh rides
or ice fishing. It is gorgeous!
In the summer is Kid-safe walk-in sandy beach available on
gradual sandy shoreline--perfect for swimming for all ages
(across small country road from chalet) Open deck, Muskoka
Chairs, Barbeque, Fire Pit, Swing Set, Private sitting area
looking over beautiful stream on property Open fields for
frisbee or baseball on property 3 Canoes, a Kayak, a Sunfish
Sailboat and bicycles available. We have some life jackets but
best bring your own if you have them. The Location:
1 minute drive to South Portage public boat ramp to Lake of Bays
and South Portage Marina or 10 minute drive to Peninsula Lake
boat ramp.
Resort and other golf courses and 25 minutes to Algonquin Park
or Arrowhead Park. 2.5 hours from Toronto. Excellent shopping,
theatre and dining in Huntsville and area.
Many potential day trips and activities if you need time away
from the chalet – Algonquin Park, Santa’s Village,
entertainment (at Deerhurst or Algonquin Theatres), Festival of
the Arts and local fairs.
Access exercise and weight rooms, ping pong, pool, squash,
indoor tennis, an indoor swimming pool and hot tub at nearby
Deerhurst.
Enjoy the local wildlife. Visitors to t xhe area have spotted
such creatures as deer, moose, fox, bear, mink, martens, otter,
beaver, squirrels, skunks, porcupines, raccoons, chipmunks,
wolves, and many different species of birds.
