Aruba Vacation Home Rentals

Just fifteen miles north of Venezuela is Aruba. This island, just under twenty by six miles in size (seventy square miles total), is a flat, white sand speck of land with no native running water. No matter what time of the year, the island is about eighty degrees Fahrenheit. There are two major regions, the northeast coast and the southwest coast. The Northeast is exposed to the open ocean, so boast a rocky shoreline, cacti, rough waters and treacherous currents. The Southwest is lined with world famous white sand beaches offset with warm rich blue-green waters. The tropical marine climate has strong sunshine, so sun block is a must. You will notice that the Divi-Divi tree, a distinctive native plant, is formed by the constant steady winds from the east that flow across the island. The weather is usually dry with occasional short evening showers. The island's high point is Mount Jamanota at one hundred and eighty-eight meters. Originally claimed by the Spanish in 1499, this island became Dutch in 1636. Historically there have been three income sources here: 1800's gold rush, 1924 oil refinery, and the current tourist boom. Once part of the “ABC-Islands” or Netherlands Antilles, Aruba is now an autonomous member of the Kingdom of the Netherlands with no desire to be fully independent. In addition to tourism, offshore banking and oil refining remains major players in the economy. In addition to lounging on the beach, the island has several cities of historical import. These include Oranjestad, Noord, Paradera, Savaneta, and Saint Nicolaas. Those traveling to Aruba you will find that they use standard North American (USA and Canada) electrical systems, outlets, and sockets.
